A Voice for the Voiceless...

It is a beautiful thing to take what you have learned about social studies... the power of democracy... and directly apply it to something that you are extremely passionate about.
That is precisely what has been going on with the students at Lake Forest and Ocoee Middle Schools. They have recently utilized their right to petition the government in order to speak for their brothers and sisters in Uganda (click on this image to view a slideshow of pics). The U.S. House of Representatives is getting ready to vote on the historic LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act. The students wrote and mailed heartfelt, persuasive letters to Representative Zach Wamp in order to encourage him to make an influential floor statement this next week on behalf of the bill that could potentially end Africa's longest running war.

This generation has decided to take a stand. They will be a voice for the voiceless...
will you?

  1. Invisible Children. Wow. Its absolutley amazing. I wish everyone would at least see some documentaries about Uganda because I truly think it would change people's lives. I know it has changed mine for the good. My community and I are doing an art show May 16 for Invisible Children. The planning for it is coming great. Im hoping and praying that we will have a great success in this show. Kids in Uganda need are help. They need the love and friendliness of other people. Im sure people there think no one cares about them and i think we need to make a change for the world. People think that our generation of kids dont care about whats going on. They think all we care about is cell phones and tv. We need to show the world that our generation is in a direction to make a change in this world for the good. We really do care and we ARE going to be the change we want to see. Thank you for those who help out with Invisible Children. God bless.

  4. "How is God changed and altered when peoples' faith falters? Hes turned into evil all because of these people. If we can get a picture how can we not make an arrest? My brothers and sisters I have to say I think this is a test. When do we stop climbing the ladder of success and look at other people, help them climb to the steeple? No way the LRA can stay. These kids have been looking for a new day, and we can provide. Ladies and gentlemen this is our time. This is a movement of good , not a movement of evil. And the whole point of this rhyme is for you to help these people." -Jesse Cable

  5. Invisible children is absolutly amazing. People should care alot about this because it is life changing. We live freely in the U.S and people over there are getting killed and taken from their homes every day. We need to put a stop to that. Uganda needs our help! People think we don't care. Let's show them that they are WRONG. Invisible children has changed the way I look at things sbout life. It should change yours to. When you see those little kids and see that they have nothing it just makes you want to help. Let's all give a helping hand and chance the world. Make the Invisible, Visible. In the wise words of Ghandi, "be the change you want to see in the world." Thank you. God Bless.

  6. I am so blessed to have had Mrs. Cretton this year. Because without her, I would not have heard about the Invisible Children. And what's sad is that not many people know about the Invisible Children. I hope anyone who is free Sunday, May 16 can come. At the Dixon Center, we are having an art show. We are putting alot of time and effort into it. Everyone is psyched about the show ,and hopefully we will have a great turn out. Thank you Mrs. Cretton for all you do! You're a blessing:)

  7. This is abosolutely life changing. I myself have had my eyes opened this year because before 8th grade social studies I had no clue about the invisble children. This has been a great life changing experience for us and as we hope for the children in Uganda.
